I have the hon. to inform you that my aq ention has been drawn by the Comptroller and
Auditor General to the fact that Mr. Messer
while lately acting as Treasurer was allowed
to draw the whole of his salary as an unpass
ed cadet, in addition to nalf the salary of
Treasurer.
2. In his reply to the audit queryi Mr. Thomson states that there are precedents
for drawing the whole of an officer's pay as
a cadet under these circumstances. I should b
glad to be furnished with details of the pred
dents referred to.I should also be glad to
know whether this payment was made on your
special authority, or merely authorised as a
matter of routine by the Treasurer.
